Fair Trade @ The Fling 2009
A special thank-you to…  all our models/dancers for their time, hard work and great enthusiasm for this event.  The two fantastic dances have been choreographed by the QVS dancers themselves!  Also, to Kirsty Freeland for being a great MC. …Hilary McKay of the Highland Fair Trade Group and Diana Stewart of Wallace High for their invaluable detailed advice and information on organising a fashion show.  Hilary will shortly be launching an ethical clothes company, which will operate through the website www.evagrant.co.uk.  Diana is working with her school to becoming a Fairtrade School   … Andy Freeland for taking the photos, Alan Kirk for his help and for bringing the QVS dancers to rehearsal and to the event today, Theresa Ross for ironing all the clothes, Angela Mair for doing the make-up and hair, Elaine Cochrane and Adele for helping backstage, Mary Watson for being in charge of the raffle, Dave Topliff for supplying the PA and editing the music, and Mary Dale for selling the clothes at the Fling stall.

Fashion Show Clothes and Jewellery

Joolz

Uta Rosenbrock very generously lent us many clothes from her Nomads and Braintree ranges that she sells in her Edinburgh shop Joolz.  Braintree products are made from environmentally friendly materials like hemp, soy, bamboo and organic cotton.  Nomads’ garments are all handmade using traditional craft and dying processes. Uta had her popular Fair Trade clothes stall at Fling by the River again this year.    Joolz, 29 Leven Street, Edinburgh EH3 9LH , 0131 228 8564

Ethics Girls

Sam Roger, director of Ethics Girls, very kindly selected some clothes by Kuyichi and Komodo for us to model.  Kuyichi and Komodo both use organic materials to create their stylish clothes. people had the hance to chat with Sam at her stall in the crafts marquee about the range of products she sells and about Ethics Girls becoming a co-operative in October 2009.

Wombat Clothing

Clothing for life’s adventures. Wombat Clothing very kindly lent the Fling some of its Fair Trade clothing for our fashion show.  Why not visit their website to check out the new Spring/Summer 2009 collection?

Gossypium

Great organic and Fair Trade cotton clothing – seen on the Fling catwalk. People also had the chance to buy the garments modelled at Fling by the River after the fashion show.

Bíbico

Fashionably Fair High-Street Styles came to the Fling catwalk on Saturday. If you didn't see these fantastic clothes, visit Bíbico’s website.

La Redoute

Everyone enjoyed la différence with these chic French Fair Trade clothes which were modelled at Fling by the River. Visit La Redoute’s UK website to see what all the fuss is about.

Earth & Wear

Fantastic Fair Trade and ecologically sound t-shirts with great 'No Sweat'™ designs - seen on the Fling catwalk. Visit the Earth & Wear website to see more.

Traces of Rock

Rock clothes made for kids, not by kids. People had the chance of winning one of their great organic Fairtrade cotton t-shirts by entering the family Treasure Hunt on Sunday.  Visit their website to see what’s in store.

Christine’s Fair Trade Eco-Jewellery

Local jeweller, Christine Johnson, lent us all the fabulous Kazuri jewellery seen modelled on the Fling catwalk.  Kazuri’s exquisite hand-painted ceramic jewellery is made in Kenya by struggling single mothers.  Christine also makes her own fantastic hand-made jewellery.

Fair Trade Café

The Dunblane Development Trust ran the café at Fling by the River again this year selling Fairtrade tea and coffee.

Comfort Rwanda

Beautiful crafts hand-made by Rwandan women widowed during the 1994 genocide. All sales went directly to the widows and orphans to provide them with an income and finances for their children to attend school.

Hadeel

Exquisite crafts from community-based groups in the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon. Check out their wares on their website.

Scotmid Co-operative

Scotmid Co-operative very generously donated a wide range of Fair Trade goodies for the Fling Treasure Hunt prize at Doune Castle on Sunday and for the Fling tombola at Fling by the River on Saturday.  See where your nearest Store is by visiting their website. 

Scottish Fair Trade Forum

Not only did the SFTF give us a grant to help run the fashion show on Saturday, they also donated some Fair Trade footballs which everyone had the chance to win at Fling by the River and as part of the Treasure Hunt prize at Doune Castle. 

People Tree

People Tree has very kindly donated a beautiful women’s scarf for a raffle prize.  See their stylish Fair Trade clothing made from organically grown cotton on their website. 

One Less Krata

One Less Krata is an organisation who sells ecologically sound Fair Trade shopping bags made from beautiful recycled saris.  People entered family Treasure Hunt on Sunday for their chance to win one of these fabulous bags. 

The Green Apple

Ethical and eco-friendly shopping with style!  The lucky winners of the family Treasure Hunt won a shopping voucher in the amazing Fairtrade goodie basket.  See what you can buy online by visiting their website.
